Gladstone MI - 2018
After leaving Casey and Mo's pad, we headed to Gladstone MI, staying at the Pioneer Trail City Park for our next stop. This was like the halfway point from Holmen to Davison. We were here for about 2 full days, or 3 nights if you are counting. This is the first city campground we stayed at. We had electric and water but didn't have sewer connections. Not a big deal since we weren't here for very long and we will dump before heading to Davison MI.
They said we had a pull through campsite, but the way we came in (the way they said to go), there was no way I was going to make the turn into the site. Way too many tree's to even try. Maybe if I came from the other way, I might have made it in. But what we did was drive around to the other side and backed in. That worked...unlike the water spicket. I got soaked from nose to toes turning on the water. We ended up using the water spicket at the site next to us instead. The nice thing about that is no one could use that site while we were there.
While we were here, Terry found a few things to do (besides for drinking, Ben!), There was a couple of waterfalls in the area and a Lighthouse just begging to be visited. So on Tuesday, we headed to the Sandy Point Lighthouse and Museum. The lighthouses aren't very tall in Michigan. Maybe because the lakes aren't as big as the oceans, or because the people are afraid of heights (Terry was at one time). Maybe I should read up on that one of these days. The lighthouse had several outbuildings. One housed the rescue boat, and another was a tribute to the Coast Guard that was stationed there. When we purchased our ticket, we were allowed to visit the Delta County Historical Society Museum too. Nice museum, having another rescue boat, a lot of Naval stuff, old stuff like a typewriter, doctor stuff, furniture, guns, knives, deep diving equipment, china and even a TRS-80 computer. Basically a lot of things a town would have growing up.
The next day (Wednesday), we headed out to find some waterfalls. The first stop was Chandler Falls, but all we found was a dam. It might have been farther down river, but we didn't want to walk somewhere just to find out we were totally in the wrong location.
So off to find Haymeadow Falls. On the way to the falls, guess what? It started raining. but then it stopped before we arrived at the falls. The hike to the falls was a short half to a mile hike. The hike would have been more fun if my bug spray didn't wear off during the humid hike. When we saw the falls, I said "That's the falls? it's not very tall. I guess Michigan likes their Falls like their Ski Slopes...Short and steep!. Oh and of course it started to sprinkle while on the trail. Did I tell you our dog Scout went with us on this hike. He enjoyed it.
On the way back to camp from the falls, our GPS tried to take us down an ancient trail, instead of the road. Must have been a shortcut. If you expand the picture and zoom in, you can read the sign, to the left was the trail, and below was the GPS showing us where to go. If you cannot zoom in, then just take my word for it.
The next day, we packed up, dumped and was ready to hit the road, but NOOOOO. The TireMinder Tire pressure monitoring system said my inside driver side rear tire was low. It was down to 54 Pounds (the other tires were around 69 pounds). So I had to dig out the air pump from the shed (it was in the middle bottom of the shed). When I went to check the pressure and put more air in it, the valve stem wasn't lined up with the hole in the wheel of the outside tire, but luckily I was able to get the nozzle on it and put about 65 pounds of pressure in it. Will keep an eye on that tire to see if it goes down again.
So off to Davison MI to see Terry's family. Until then...
