Today, March 28th, we headed to Albuquerque from the Riverview Campground in Loveland, CO and plan on staying there for 2 weeks. Time to see my elders. (My sister and brother.) I was wondering if we were going to have wind issues since it has been windy, but it looks like we lucked out and made it down to Hidden Valley RV Park without issues, other than Terry said her back and leg was hurting. She said it started the day before.
We must have gotten there too late (4:15 PM) and had to do
an after-hours check-in. They had the info for us in an envelope with
where to go and everything. We pulled into our spot (boy it was narrow)
and got all set up. I did have to pull in the legs of my step because if
I didn't, the steps would hit the rock wall next to the RV. But we did
get the steps down. More about the campground towards the bottom of this
chapter in my "Campground Review" section.
Once we got all set up, we put the dining room table
from the house in the truck and headed to my sister’s house (about 25 minutes
away). We spent a few hours with my sister and nephew before heading back
and letting the dog get some exercise...ok he went for a little walk.
The next day (Thursday), Terry's pain was getting worse so we
looked for an urgent care facility so they can take our money and really do
nothing to help (they issued painkillers and muscle relaxants). When the
weekend was over and Terry was not any better, we looked for a chiropractor and
after calling about 5 different ones, we found one that could see her that day
and every day after that for about a week. They made her back better, but
it wasn't fully healed until we got back to Colorado (that's in another story).
Since Terry was in pain, we didn't really do much;
visited with family, took the dog to the dog park, and pretty much stared at
each other. Then we saw a thing on TV about the Trinity Site and that it
was going to be open this weekend. I guess it is only open twice a year
and luckily, we were at the right place at the right time.
Terry got tired of sitting around and we headed to
the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History in Albuquerque on Friday. We will see if that makes Terry's back
better or worse...hoping for the better. The Museum was quite big,
it took a couple of hours to go through it (mainly because Terry reads all the
stuff). I think it's faster to read the pictures themselves and nothing
else. You know, each picture is worth a thousand words. They also
had some planes, rockets and other things in the field outside. I think
this was worth trip. What we did find out is this trip didn't help or
hurt Terry anymore. She said she was in no more or less pain then when we
started.
On Saturday, we headed to the Trinity Site.
The Trinity Site is where they tested the nuclear Bomb (no not the place with
the fake town (that is what I was hoping for)). This is on the White
Sands Missile Range and I guess they stopped bombing their land twice a year and open the site up to the public. I would have thought it wouldn't be very busy since
it's in the middle of nowhere, but I was wrong. When we got there, we sat
in line to get on base. I think it only took us about an hour to get
on (about a mile or so). Then a short drive and we were there at the parking lot for the
site. Thirty minutes later, off we go back to Albuquerque. As you
can see, there wasn't much there, but I think I grew a new arm out my
back. Which worked well because my back itched. (not really. Oh, you already guess that huh?). Here are the pictures we took at the Trinity Site...don't get too excited. Also, not in all pictures but in some I put in description of what you are seeing to help with the picture. just look at the info of the picture to see it.
On Sunday, we drove down Route 66 (questionable areas
of Albuquerque, and I think that is where the downtown is too). We were
heading to the Petroglyphs National Monument on the west side of town and why
take the freeway when you can drive down Rt 66. We went to check out the
park but there wasn't anywhere to park the dually so we decided to come back
during the week when there will be less people. So, during the week we
came back and checked out the rocks and pictures. Here are the pictures we took at the Petroglyphs National Monument.
Terry said her pain has become tolerable now (Still hurts but doesn't bring tears to the eyes). The review for the campground can be seen here, or on the Camping Reviews page (link on the right).
Our next stop is Carlsbad, NM.
