Welcome to Quartzsite...again. We stopped here on the way to Yuma and planned on staying here from 18-20 Mar. Just a short stint before heading the rest of the way into Yuma where we will be getting our new roof. More on that in a minute.
One of the things I wanted to do is learn more about the RV and be able to understand and fix more things myself without having to depend on a stranger to fix something. Because of that, I decided to get a home RV Inspector course that after the course, I could be one step away from being an RV Inspector. If I decide to continue on, I would be able to inspect RV's and give a report to the customer on the condition of the RV in question. I guess it takes about 8 hours to inspect the RV checking from bumper to hitch, but you can earn something like $1200 for each inspection. On top of that, they are needed everywhere. The course itself is a bunch of classroom videos on all the subjects of an RV. So that is what I have been doing for the last few campsites and I'm almost done. I will let you know when I finally complete it. (it's about 40 hours of video). Here is the link to the course, if you are interested.
Well we didn't do anything in Quartzsite, so off to Yuma we go. We are staying at the Yuma Lakes RV Resort again. We arrived on the 20th of March and the tech is going to start the install of the roof on Monday the 25th of Mar. We are staying at the park until the 3rd of Apr.
We didn't do much in Yuma other than get the roof installed, so let's talk about that. RV Armour is the company that installs the new rubber roof and it's a 4 step process. Normally it takes 3 to 4 days to complete and ours was no exception. The tech didn't finish up until late Thursday. Like I mentioned before, I have a lot of solar panels installed and he had to hand paint around each mount on each solar panel. He had to do this 4 separate times. That is what took the longest I guess.
So here are the steps.
1. Wash the roof and then inspect every inch of it for damage.
2. Remove any old sealant and caulking that is questionable and then prime the roof.
3. Paint on the first grey coat of rubber to include and hand painting around all objects. They use a grey coat first so when they do the next coat, they know what was done. The first and second coat is the same material, just different colors.
4. Paint on the second coat of rubber (for me that was a tan color, but they have different colors).
The way it was explained, the two coats meld together to make one solid piece of rubber. It takes about 4 to 6 weeks before it is completely hardened, but you are good to move and walk on the roof as early as a couple of days, as long as you are careful. In the end, you get a customer care package that has all the materials and instructions to make repairs as needed (or you can call them to come to you and do it). So if you add or replace something on the roof, you can reseal it. Anyway, here are the pics from beginning to end.
Like I said this is warranted for life of the RV. If you sell the RV, the warranty goes with the RV. Also, if you recommend someone, they get a discount and you get a kick back. (Hint, Hint, Hint). If you plan on keeping your RV for a long time, then I would highly recommend them. You can save $100 instantly by using the promo code "RV 3815" Here is the Link to them.
Well that was it for Yuma, we are now off to Gila Bend AZ to look at flowers and stuff I guess.
