Howdy,
Well, we
arrived at the Christmas Village Resort in Wisconsin Dells on Aug 5th and left
on the 8th. Let's talk about this place for a moment. First, this
place is Huge and by huge, I mean really big. They told us to come in on
the eastern side of the village. This was the only side with a guard
shack, and it was unmanned. After you enter the village, you received no
directions. So, we drove aimlessly until we saw RV's. Now the next
question was where do we check in. We ended up calling them up to find
out it was right across the street from where we stopped. The spot they gave us
was on the side of a hill, a very steep hill when you are trying to park a 5th
wheel. I was concerned that the front side of the RV might hit the truck
since the angle of the road compared to the flat section of the spot like 30 to
45 degrees different. The trailer did tilt but missed the truck by an
inch or so. Once we got parked and the RV level, the rise from the
ground to the first step was about 15 inches or so. That made getting
into the trailer difficult, almost impossible if you are falling down drunk.
Not that I would know anything about that.
Since we were only here for a couple days, we tried to make it a nice mini vacation (inside our retirement vacation). We started out with a Dells Duck tour. The funny thing is we didn't see one duck. Really, the duck tour is a ride on a WWII amphibious vehicle. That's right, the tour was on both land and water. I think it was worth the money at least once. We went down several paths, down a river up another path, into a lake and then back via another path. If you have the opportunity, give it a try. Here are the pictures for this.
After that, we did what every tourist does, headed to the Mac and cheese restaurant. They had all different kinds of golden delight. Here is a picture of the menu and what we had. We also wandered the streets for a little while before heading back to get ready for a dinner cruise.
We set sail on a sunset dinner cruise. Oh, what a cruise, first of all, they had an open bar for the first half of the cruise. The problem was it was on the first deck and we were on the 2nd (Top) deck. So, to make the trip worth it, I got 2 drinks every time I went there, until they started bringing me the drinks. That worked out better! Less chance of me falling overboard. The boat went to this one trail that ran up a stream and to a nice waterfall. After that, we went around the lake, had dinner (Steak and Lobster) and saw a nice sunset. When we got back to the dock, Terry got her workout trying to keep me from falling down (She was almost successful!). From there we headed back to the RV where Terry clambered right up the steps into the RV. Me not so much. It took me 2+ tries before I made it. Here are the pictures for this adventure.
Since we live
in a RV, we can drop in and see the kids and their kids when we want. On
the other side of that, we can leave the Kids and their kids when we had enough
too! From the Dells we headed to South Dakota and had fun bothering
Justin's family. We visited the Zoo, had dinner out and a cookout at our
campsite next to the lake. It was an enjoyable time.
From there we headed to see Michael in Colorado, but we took the long way. We did overnight stops in Valentine NE, Sidney NE (had to stop at Cabela's!), Rawlings WY, and then to a Winery in Palisade CO.
I think we will end
this here in Palisade. Our next stop is Gunnison CO. See you in the
next story.
