Trip to West Yellowstone MT - 2022

Look, we made it to 2022!  This year is going to be much better than the last two years!  Or so we hope.

We started the year off with a trip to Tucson to attend a SkyMed Member Appreciation luncheon.  What is SkyMed you ask?  It’s a medical transport service so when you get injured, they will pay your way to the hospital and back.  They do way more than this too like take your RV home, spouse home, dog home, or not.  It’s your call.  If you don’t want to be at the hospital you are at and rather be at your home town instead, they will take you there after you are stable to travel.  It’s a good company.  Check it out here if you like.  Well, we didn’t win anything, but our friends did.  They got a “Trip”.  If this is something you are interested in, don't forget to let them know who sent you (Steve Freitas, Member number 703788449) 😊

Between SkyMed and our next trip, we headed over to the Mescal movie set just outside of Benson.  This was an old west town that they filmed parts of a lot of movies.  One interesting point was the saloon at the end of the street, the one with bricks on the side of it, well, it doesn’t have any bricks on it at all.  That is all fake stuff.  If you’re in the area on a weekend, you should go check it out! Here are the pictures we took.

The Boarder Hookups
 are playing.

Soon after the SkyMed thing, we headed to Quartzsite for a GD Rally.  It was a typical rally with prizes, parties, and campfires.  Someone was giving away two side windows for the RV.  Both of my side window's latches broke, so I was interested and snagged one.  Once I got back to Benson, I replaced one of them.  Now at least one is good to go.  One of our hydraulic leveling jacks were leaking through the seals on our RV and I asked the GD RV Techs, if they might have one on their trailer.  They didn’t, but they said they would send me one, and sure enough they did.  Gotta love GD.  Here are the pictures from this Rally.

It's now time to get organized and start heading to Montana for our camp hosting gig at Yellowstone Holiday RV Park.

When we left Benson, we had to follow a semi that had the bed of an earth moving dump truck on it.  The bed took the whole freeway to include the shoulders.  Luckily, we only had to follow them to Tucson, or about 30 miles.

Our first stop was at the Lost Dutchman State Park for a few days.  We needed to get our rings cleaned again and it was a good stopping spot.   Now, back to the park.  The park was very clean and the sites were good size.  While we were here, we visited a “Tourist Trap” "Goldfield Ghost town and Mine Tours" which was just down the road,  and also got a hike in to some petroglyphs.

Our next stop was at the Cameron Trading Post RV Park.  Cameron is part of an Indian reservation I believe.  While we were here, we wandered through the Wupatki National Monument and the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument. Then we checked out where all the smoke in the area was coming from.  We found that, but turned around and headed back to camp before they shut down the road. Which they did a few minutes later because the fire was about to jump the road.

We said “Bryce is the place we want to be”, so we loaded the RV and off to Bryce National Park we go.  Let me just say, the road from Cameron to Page Arizona is one of the worst roads we have been on.  I guess it would be fine if you were in a car, but pulling a RV on a road the goes up and down every 3 feet sucks!  Well, we landed ok at the Bryce Canyon Pines RV Park.  Nice Park, some spots are better than others.  Ours was fine, except for a couple of trees placed in the worst place for our RV.  We had to position it in between trees so we could get our slides out. The park itself is also nestled in Pine trees.

While we were here, we wanted to check out some of the boondocking sites in the area.  There were a few sites we could fit in, but we probably wouldn’t try since it looks like a popular place and we would have to go a few miles down this off-road trail.  No worries, the park we are staying at works and it’s only like 10 miles from Bryce.

Terry wanted to wonder off the road and onto trails while in Bryce.  I informed her that all the trails go down and then back up.  She didn’t care and dragged my assets down with her.  What I did like,  they had a separate trail for the horses/donkeys or whatever they were riding.  It was a fun hike though.  Here are our pics for this.  We also tried to go to another monument called Cedar Breaks National Monument, but it wasn’t open.  I guess the snow was too deep still.  Heck, a lookout still had about 2 feet in places where you would want to go.  But it had some very nice views.  Check it out!

Our next stop was Rowley’s Red Barn in Utah.  For whatever reason, we always end up stopping here for the night.  It’s a Harvest Host spot.  Oh, I remember now, it’s because their ice cream is really, really good.  From here we headed to the Snake River RV Park in Idaho Falls to stock up on food and stuff before heading to our final destination, Yellowstone Holiday RV Park.

Keep following along while we spend the summer at Yellowstone Holiday RV Park and play around in the area.

Enjoy!
