Elkins WV - 2018

We arrived at Pegasus Farm Campground in Elkins, WV without issue.  We are staying here from 11 - 13 Jul so we can do a train ride with Terry's parents.  On my truck I have an exhaust brake that works really well.  When in cruise control, and the exhaust brake on, I do whatever speed I have it set up for.  This is good for us, not so much for a mini van that is following us.  They had to keep applying the brakes going down hill so they wouldn't run into us...or so they said.  I just giggled.  We also found out there wasn't any rest areas between Lancaster and Elkins, but there was a school with a big empty parking lot.  So we ate lunch there.  That is also the first school that I have seen with it's own lake.

After we got settled, we decided to check out some waterfalls at Blackwater Falls State Park in Davis WV.  It was a short hike (or steps) to the falls.  Here are some pictures of that.

The next day, we all jumped up, got ready and headed to the train station to go on a train ride up in them there hills.  (What was that noise?  Oh, I thought I heard banjo music.  Must of been mistaken.)  We decided to pay for the parlor car.  Oh, did I say what train?  Guess I didn't.  It's called the "Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad" in Elkins.   We had our own bartender/waitress/hostess for the car.  I don't know if it was better or not, one person for about 40 people, but it worked.
We were sitting on the left side of the train facing the left side.  I figured that would work and then on the way back, we can check out the views on the other side of the train.  So on the way up the hill, we had a river on our side which gave us a good view most of the time.  Sometimes we just look at a hill 7 feet away.  When we were close to the top, the train stopped, they applied the brakes to the train, disconnected the engines, and ran them down to the other end of the train on another track.  then pushed us up the rest of the way to the top where some falls are.
Once we got to the top, we were able to go and check out he falls.  Terry's mom stayed at the overlook while the her dad went with us to the bottom to see the falls.  When we were done there, we jumped back on the train and headed back.  We stayed in the same seats, so we saw the same stuff on the way back.  Figures.  But the good news is that the other side got to see a hill 7 feet away almost the whole way up and back.  (Well good new for us, not for them.)
Sorry for the pictures, they were all taken through a glass window.  No outside car on this ride.  Oh and speaking of pictures, here they are!

The next day, Terry's parents headed back to Michigan and we headed to Stoney Creek Resort in Greenville VA.  See ya there!
