Overton (2) NV - 2019

Well we survived the Ski Trip.  Now is the time to lick our wounds and get back to adventuring.  But first, I need to do a little repair job on the RV.  Now that we are back just south of Overton NV, the weather is warm so we can assess the damage of the trailer.  We plan on staying here from 1-10 Mar.  This time we went a little farther in and stayed on the north side.  Still got some road noise, but not as much.

Like I said during the SKI trip, I damaged the driver side section of the RV from a snow wall I scraped against.  Come to find out, the damage isn't too bad.  Mostly cosmetic...except for the water heater and power receptacle.  When we left Jackson, I cut off most of the broken lid of the receptacle, leaving the the red wire connected to a small part of the lid.  (what you say?  a wire?...yes a wire.  The receptacle has a light built into it to show when it has power.  Now back to my story.)  I think I will wait until we get to Vegas and get a new receptacle at the RV store.  So if you are wondering why we are going back to Vegas, it's because we can.  There is also a Grand Design RV Rally that we are going to.

Now onto the water heater.  It was so bent in, that I couldn't get the door for it open.  I thought to myself, "you know what I need to fix this?  a 2x4.  with that I can do some banging to straighten it out.  Off to Overton's hardware store we go.  I was able to pick up a nice 2x4.  Good thing I have an eight foot bed in the truck.  When we got back to the trailer, I cut two 3 foot sections leaving a nice little 2 foot section for banging.  I was able to put the 2x4 on the edge of the water heater and bang it back to where I could open the door.  From there, it was just a matter of taking the door and door frame of the water heater off and reshape it back to almost "Lovingly Used" (still a little dented, but not too bad).  Put that all back together, a little caulking around the edges and called it good.

Next thing to work on was the door to the water closet (storage door outside).  It was bent in a bit.  I took the door off and used the two 3 foot 2x4s to bend the door somewhat back.  The wall between the water heater and door was bent in a little too, so I crawled into the storage area, removed the false wall to access that area of the RV, and tried to bang the wall out a little.  I might have been a little successful, but not by much.  I still had a gap from the door to the frame.  But since I had everything out of the storage area anyway, I decided to move the inside wall back a few inches to give me a little more storage room.  That was a success!  Off to the hardware store again.  This time to get some foam gasket to put along the edge of the door.  Problem solved.

The only thing left to fix was the plastic trim on the slide and the propane door.  I will fix those at a later time.  Well the trim piece cannot be fixed.  I will have to get one ordered somehow and the propane door was actually just forgotten about.

Also, while we were here, some of the things I wanted to do to the RV was upgrade the suspension and Kingpin.   I was all about planning on doing that when we got back to Vegas, but I saw a squirrel and after thinking about it, I decided we needed to do something with our roof.  We have a lot of holes in the roof from the solar panels (no the roof is not leaking, but without constant maint, it could).  So we decided to get a "New roof" installed.  It's not really a new roof, it's two new coats of liquid rubber compound that hardens into rubber.  So in other words, they will be painting the roof.  Doing this, it makes one solid piece of rubber roof, they even paint up on things like the solar mounts, antenna mount and so on.   The other thing is it's guaranteed for the life of the RV.  So we gave them a call and scheduled it to be installed when we get to Yuma.  (They are nationwide, so it can be done anywhere.)  The company is called RV Armor and you can click on their name to the left to go to their website.  If you decide to do it, maybe you can mention my name.  You will get money off and we get a little kickback too.  More about this when we get to Yuma.

Well it's been awhile since we did laundry and are running out of clean clothes.  After a little scouting event, we found a campground a little farther south in Echo Bay called "Lake Mead RV Village at Echo Bay".  We stayed here from 10-14 Mar to get our laundry done before heading to Vegas.

It was a little interesting drive to the campsite.  Nothing like having a few mountain sheep run across the road right in from of you.  Here are some pictures of the area for you to go gock at.

Well we are now going to Vegas to attend our 2nd Grand Design Rally.  We enjoyed the first one and was on the waiting list for the Vegas one.  They called about a week out and let us know we could come if we liked.  So we jumped on that, and that is where we are heading.  Back to Oasis RV Resort in Vegas.  See you there...Don't go getting a gambling habit.  If you do, you might become broke!
