Overgaard AZ - 2020

So we started our trek to Michigan (that was the secret!). I guess the warm...who am I kidding, it was just too darn hot here in Benson AZ., so we are heading to Michigan where we can be hot and sticky! Of course, since we are retired, we can take our sweet time getting there. A couple of days before we left Benson, we got our oil changed and I guess I had a crack in the windshield that grew after the oil change. It doesn't block my view, but the sun sure likes to highlight it and sparkle in your eyes.  The morning we were heading out, we found out our air pump decided to stop working. We had been having issues with it, and now it decided to stop working.  I guess we will get a new one when we get to Michigan.
First stop on the road is a coast-to-coast resort by Overgaard AZ. It's up in the northern mountains but we couldn't head straight north, we had to go through Phoenix. All the other routes were way too windy for a 35ft 5th wheel, or so I'm told at least (by my wife).
Anyway, when we arrived at White Mountain Sunrise Resort and checked in, Terry said we had a $3/day resort fee.  I don't have an issue paying for a resort fee, but it would be nice if they had some resort amenities. The only thing this campground had was an old horseshoe pit. Their other campgrounds might have them, but why do I have to pay for them?  We stayed here from 4-14 June. Besides them calling this a resort when it's a just ok campground, the place was okay. It wouldn't be ok if it was packed because they have one power box for 4 RVs. Two of the RVs would be fine, but the other two would have to run their power and water to the passenger side and then another 30 feet or so to get to the utilities. Luckily they had the sewer connection in the right spot for everyone.  You should check out the pictures that I didn't take.  Oh, wait...nevermind.

Only covered bridge in AZ
The campground has free Wi-Fi even though you couldn't stream, just basic stuff like checking email and surfing. I was glad for the WiFi because we barely had cell service and nothing for our sprint hot spot. So we watched a lot of movies from DVD.  We did check out the area and saw some dry camping spots that looked promising. We also visited the only covered bridge in AZ.
It was in Pinedale and it even had a bypass for bigger rigs that couldn't make it under the roof.
Remember that crack in the windshield? Well I couldn't take it any longer, so I took a marker and colored in the crack. I'll see how that does to stop the reflection of the sun.
Well that was about it for this place.  Our next stop will be a boondocking spot near Dolores CO.  On our way to the boondocking spot, we passed by a little forest fire that turn much larger overnight.  Here are the pictures for that. We camped about 15 miles from the fire, so we stayed hooked up, just in case we needed to do a quick departure.  The fire was going in the opposite direction anyway, so I wasn't that concerned.  The boondocking spot was a nice little spot, but it was quite full with RV's.  I could see why, since it was right next to the river and the spots were mostly flat. The next day, we headed to Gunnison.  See you then.
