Monument co - 2019

So we made it back to the Colorado Heights Campground in Monument Co.  We will be here from 10-21 Jul 2019.  As I mentioned before, we can stay here for free if we wanted 30-amp service or $8 a day for 50-amp.  We usually choose 50-Amp because of the location.  There are no trees in the 50-amp service area which means less I have to clean off the slides before bringing them in. (I wonder why they call it 50-amp service when it's really 100-amp service.  humm).

So what did we do in Monument?  Well, we ordered our P900 camera, got a new internet device called the Roadlink C2, visited the Air Force Academy, checked out a park in Colorado Springs and visited Pikes Peak.  So let's break this down.

So let's start with the Roadlink C2 antenna.  This antenna has 2 4G LTE antennas and 3 Wi-Fi antennas.  The device itself cost about $400 but the service is from AT&T for $360 a year with unlimited data.  Since I am writing this now (Feb of 2020) I know the future.  So before you run out and get yourself one, check this out.  I got the device installed on the roof without issue, all it needed was power so I stole that from our backup camera (that is not installed) power.  As we used it, I kept noticing that the download speed was way slower than the upload speed, I mean like 4 times slower no matter where we were at in the country.  Then about once a month I had to go on the roof and reset it because it would become unresponsive.  Now to top it off, AT&T is not going to renew the service plan.  I guess people used it and AT&T didn't like that.  So before we had it, we had a sprint hot spot which we will go back to for our WiFi service.  Will probably keep the device on the roof for places that has WiFi when cell service is non existent.  Now you too can see into the future.  You're welcome.

Next thing we got was the Camera, a Nikon CoolPix P900.  Again I can see into the future and this camera ROCKS!  It has a 2000mm Zoom with GPS.  Now if I get lost, all I have to do is take a picture of something, upload the picture to my phone, look at the info to see where it was taken and boom, I know where I'm at...what?...I could have just looked at my phone to start with?...oh...nevermind.   They say you can see the rings of Saturn with it.  When I looked through one like this at Jefferson, I did see the rings, but I haven't been able to with ours yet.  I can see the moons of Jupiter (I think) though.  The picture to the left is the building on top of Pikes Peak.  I took it from the campground in Monument (21 Miles away As the crow flies).  We got the camera for our Alaska cruise and I'm glad I did.  Got close up pictures of eagles and a bear. Just wish the sun would be in the right location.  Here is a link to a video I took while on the cruise, it's about 40 seconds long but the last 15 seconds or so will show you the zoom power of the camera.  Hopefully, nothing happens by showing you the future.

Terry and I have lived in Colorado for like 21 years and never visited the Air Force Academy.  I didn't know it was open to the public.  We pulled into the gate and they just told us where to go.  Definitely worth the trip.  You should do it if you haven't yet.  Here is our pictures of that adventure.

So there is a park in Colorado Springs that was cool.  It's called Palmer Park.  It's a nice little drive to the top of a mound so you can see over the Springs.  Here are some of the pictures we took there.

Lastly, but not leastly, Michael came down and we went to check out Pikes Peak.  Michael loves to drive my truck, but not on this trip I guess.  So I drove.  It was a nice day, but the top of Pikes peak was closed.  They were doing construction on the building I guess.  But we stopped in a boulder field so Michael could run around on the rocks.  Here is the pictures of that.  Included was a picture from the Palmer Park to the top of Pikes Peak.

So that's it for here.  We are off to Gunnison to float our boat and do some fishing.  Actually we are going to Washington to go on an Alaskan Cruise, but we don't have to be there until Sep, so it will be a slow trip.
