We rolled on into Vegas and to our spot at the Oasis RV Resort. to attend the Grand Design Rally. Luckily, we got a pull through this time. It made it way easier to park. We are staying here from 14-18 Mar for the rally. While we were getting settled in, we already saw the Grand Design Repair techs running around fixing issues for the Grand Design owners. They really do rock!
When we checked in for the rally, we recieved a little Grand Design soft sided cooler and inside was a couple of double insulated cups, a couple of koozies, some pens and GDRV4LIFE bracelets (you know the rubber ones). We also received a nice cutting board and knife. I think there was some more stuff included, but I can't remember what they were. I really need to start taking pictures of this stuff.
During the rally, they had their opening stuff with, of course, question and answers with the techs. During the weekend, they had several seminars, drawings for free stuff (the tickets weren't free though), and they also fed you I think every night with some tasty food. They also had several new Grand Design RVs to tour too. During the last night of the rally, we had a special guest. The CEO of Grand Design showed up to say hi and meet everyone. Or he just wanted to see his daughter that was in Vegas, and thought this was a good excuse. I really don't think anyone would be mad at him any, being the boss and all.
But what really happened at the rally, you might ask. Well the first night, there was a little get together at one of the RVs. We had some adult refreshments and a lot of socializing. At one point, they were trying to throw some cheese squares into Terry's mouth from a distance. They all failed, except for one of the RV Techs, Jack. He took the food, and lifted it in the air and then walked it right into Terry's mouth. It was quite funny....oh, well I guess you had to be there with an adult beverage for it to be funny. I also was talking to the tech's about our mishap in Jackson and that I was going to go to the RV store to get a new power receptacle. He told me, "Don't do that, They are expensive. Come find me tomorrow and I will give you one. Heck, I will even install it for you." Well you can't beat that with a stick. Then I was talking to the regional sales rep (He was working for the company when the first RV rolled out.) and was telling him about the issue we have when we have the RV positioned North-South. When the sun comes up/down, it heats up the thermostat which causes either the heater to never come on, or the AC to never shut off. He was really interested in that and want to see it.
The next day, the sales rep Jordan came by and I showed him what I was talking about. I also mentioned the passage from the roof to the storage area (used for a path for cables) wasn't big enough to be useful. So he brought both of those issues to the engineers to see if they can resolve it in future builds. But while he was there, I showed him the damage on the side of the RV. He didn't like what he saw, so he called to get the trim, doors and some decals sent to me so it will look good again. So what company does that? Fixes stuff that wasn't even their fault to begin with. I didn't even ask and it wasn't my intent to begin with for them to fix it, but I am glad they did. They won me over.
This was also my birthday time (within a week), so I got to go to the strip and strip. Oh did I hurt your eyes? he he he. Not really, we walked the strip, and then went to Mesa Grill for dinner. We did stop by the M&M and Hershey store for a little sweetness. And yes I did get a Daiquiri for the walk down the strip. I'm not ashamed. It was good. Jealous?
Ok, back to the rally. During the drawings, I always tried to sit in the exact seat right in front. So much so, the wagon master kept threatening to take my chair from me. I should have let him, because it wasn't a winning seat. Better luck next year. Remember I was going to upgrade my suspension on the RV? Well what I wanted to do is have the RoadMaster Comfort Ride suspension system installed. This system included new springs and shocks to smooth out the ride. But when I was sitting in one of the seminars for MORryde, I saw they had an independent suspension system. But before I could hear about it, I had to leave, because that's when the Techs showed up to our RV to get the power receptacle replaced and upgrade the hydraulic breaker from a 50 amp to an 80 amp breaker. (this fixed the slides not coming all the way in issue). When they were done, I went back to find the rep for MORryde and had him explain that suspension system. I think I might go with that instead. But I have a year to think it over since I put the roof over the suspension for this year.
Well I think that's it for this trip. We are heading to Yuma with a short stop at Quartzsite. See you in Yuma.
