Hello,
From Jefferson, we headed to Gunnison CO for a week. We stayed at the Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch again.
While we were at Gunnison, we made a day trip to Creede CO. I like this little town; small and compact next to a long narrow canyon. While we were hanging out there, we walked the main street, had some ice cream I'm sure and then went to the Underground Mine Museum at the end of the town. This museum is in what looks like mine shafts in the side of the mountain. But, interesting fact, it was made like that. It was never a mine. Here are the pictures we took of that.
On the way
back to Gunnison, we saw these guys broke down on the side of the road in a
remote section of the road. I figured I would do a good deed and help
them out. I gave them a ride to Gunnison so they can get a tow back to
town.
From Gunnison, we headed back up to Jefferson Co, so we can meet up with Michael. We went to our normal Boondocking site and was going to hang there for a week or so. This is when we found out Scout our dog decided that cows are fun to play with. He won't play with dogs, but give him a young cow and he is all good. From that point on, if he sees cows in a field, he runs to the window to watch them as we drive by. After a good visit with Michael and his girlfriend, we saw the weather report and we were going to get a foot or two of snow. Well, we didn't want to deal with that, so we headed south to Alamosa Co. and stayed at the Alamosa KOA.
Well, I guess we didn't get far enough south. The storm still hit us and I think we got a good 18 inches or so. It was the wet stuff too. It took down several trees in the park but luckily, we weren't by any of them, unlike some other RV's. It didn't look like any damage was done to them though. Here are those pictures. Well, we stayed here for a few days and then headed to Pagosa Springs CO for a few days and hung out at the Mountain Landing Suites & RV Park. I don't remember much...ok I don't remember anything about this park.
Here we went to a dinner show at the "Bar D Ranch". It was a fun western outdoor show and dinner. They also had plenty of things to check out while you wait for the show. Here are the pictures we took while there.
From here we checked out "Chimney Rock National Monument". It has some old Ruins and a rock. Pretty cool. Check it out if you're in the area.
From
here we planned on heading to the Petrified Forest outside of Holbrook
Az. On the way, while going through Farmington NM, we had one of our
tires blow out. It sounded like a bomb going off. Luckily, we were
only going about 35 mph. After that happened, I pulled into the next
parking lot which was a Tractor Supply Center. The drive was very steep
going in to the parking lot, but we made it ok. We didn't have much
damage done to the RV, at least nothing that was life changing or anything to
really worry about. Here are those pictures. After I changed the tire, we called a campground to
spend the night since it was Sunday and Discount Tire wasn't open.
Now we had to get back out of this parking lot. When we pulled out
and into the street, the angle was just too much and the trailer hit the bed of
the truck. No damage was done to the truck, but I did put a crack in the
underneath of the trailer. It was superficial and the body was still
sealed so no water could get in.
That night we got on the web and it said that Discount had 4 tires in stock and we were able to make an appointment the next day to get the trailer in to replace all 4 tires. We were planning on replacing them when we got back to Benson since they had about 34,000 miles on them.
The
next morning, we headed to the store and yep, you guessed it, they could only
find 3 tires. So, we had them put those three on and the best of the
other 5 tires. Sierra Vista has them in stock so when we get back to
Benson, we will go there to pick up that last one.
After
we got new tires, we decided to just head back to Benson and do the petrified
forest another time.
