Franklin KY - 2018

We are starting our migration back to Michigan so we can walk across the Mackinac Bridge at the beginning of Sept. (They close the bridge for this).   But it doesn't mean were sitting on our hands (or butts for that matter!).  We are here in Franklin KY, staying at "Dad's Bluegrass Campground" from 9 - 16 Aug.  So let's get started on our adventure here.

We started by heading to Mammoth Cave National Park in Mammoth Ky.  Please click here to read the full story...ok part of the story...ok what I remembered.

The next day, we headed to the National Quilt Museum in Paducah KY.  We took some pictures of the outside of the museum, but none on the inside.  We were allowed to, but Terry didn't take any.  That's ok though.  They said they had like 40,000 quilts that they just switch out all the time.  So if you go, you will see something different anyway.  They did have a wooden quilt that was kinda cool, and a section that dealt with space and the moon.  Here are the pictures we took of that.

On the way to the Quilt Museum, we saw what you see in the picture to the left.   We go what is that?  Are we in Washington? Of course we weren't...I think.  So on the way back from the quilt museum, we stopped to find out more about it.  So what is this you might ask?  It's a memorial for Jefferson Davis.  I know, I know, you are saying "Oh, him.  I remember him in school."  So I guess I can tell you where we went next...what?  You never heard of him? Well ok then, let me refresh your memory.  He was the president of the Confederate States of America (Lincoln was the President of the United States of America at the same time.)   Click on the link above to learn more about him.

I was told this monument was about 200 feet shorter than the one in DC (351 feet) and is newer than that one.  This structure has no rebar in it.  It's all brick and cement.  On a side note, I guess they took down the Davis's house and Lincoln's house and brought them to the 1897 World's fair in Nashville and re-assembled them.  After the fair, the took them down and stored them.  But when they did that, they mixed up the logs, so now they don't know what log goes to what cabin.  I guess help was no better then than now.

We also saw the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green KY on the way to the Quilt museum.  We decided to visit that the next day.  Click here to read about that.

We took a day off to recoup and then off to Nashville we went!  I wanted to check out Broadway street.  While there, we checked out the Johnny Cash Museum and just walked around.  During our walkabout, we saw Shaq on the bridge going across the Cumberland River.  We took some pictures and continued our walkabout.  We did get a good picture of the BatMan Building (or that is what they call it.  Don't know why (picture on the left).  Anyway, here are the Johnny Cash and Nashville (with Shaq) pictures.

Our next stop is back to Lancaster OH.  We will be staying at another campground called Lakeview RV Park.  We will see if this was a good or bad choice.  See you then.
