Floyd VA - 2018

Hello, We made it to Floyd VA and we stayed at Chantilly Farm Campground.  We stayed here a week from 20 - 27 Jul.  When we stayed at Pegasus Farm campground, it was really quiet and we hoped this was going to be the same.  Well, it wasn't.  They sandwiched us between two people that go to work at 0500 in the morning with really loud, large diesel trucks that vibrate the RV when they start.  If that wasn't bad enough, they let them idol for 15 minutes before leaving.  When we got there, they were having a car show/flea market up the hill on another part of the campground.  It wasn't bad, just made the campground a little busy for the weekend.

Anyway, back to our adventures.  This is our second of three stops to complete the Blue Ridge Parkway.  We had to backtrack about 30 miles into the park to go check out the "Mabry Mill".  It has several outbuildings to include a saw mill, blacksmith shop, a grain mill and a yarn spinning room to name most.  Here are the pictures we took of that.

We were able to get another 210 miles done on the Blue Ridge parkway and got a hike in on the Cumberland Knob Trail to see....yup, waterfalls.  Here are the pictures of that hike.  At least during this stay we were able to see a bunch of deer and one bear.  But when I saw the bear, I thought is was a medium sized dog until it stood on its hind legs.  He wasn't in the park though, it was on an access road to the park at someones driveway.

On our way back from town one day (To get an oil change, tire rotation and an alignment done), the GPS took us on a short cut? I think?  Anyway, it took us up this road that was about 7 miles long over a hill.  It was very windy and realllllly narrow.  So narrow that there was just enough room for two white lines and my truck.  The funny thing is, it was a two way road.  Luckily we didn't meet up with anyone until we reached the top, and that was a garbage truck.  It was fun getting around him.

The one other thing we did was go to our first Farm store.  You know they don't sell farms there!  Just fruits, vegetables, and meats.  But there was no one there.  You just add up what you wanted and put the money into an envelope and put it in a lock box.  Then off you go.  You won't see that in a big city.

At the campground, we didn't have any cell service and the wifi bandwidth there was bad at best.  And then there was the rain.  Oh, it rained.  It rained a lot while we were there.  But I guess that was ok, since there wasn't a lot to see there anyway, and we already did all we could in the parkway, more or less.

Well off to our next stop now to finish off the parkway.  Pride Resort in WaynesVille NC, here we come!
