We made it to Aurora and hung out there for a couple of days, saw our son and then headed up into the mountains, just south of Jefferson to do some dry camping.
While we were there, Michael showed up and hung out for a couple of days and we also visited with Don and Diane and Pete and Gwen . One of our friends who were camping about 20 miles away, invited us over for dinner. While we were there, one of their friends had a camera that could capture the rings of saturn. We have been looking for a lense for our camera that would zoom in on animals that were a good ways away, but they were real expensive and then would only be like a 600mm zoom. When I saw that camera, I said to myself "I need that!!". It was the Nikon coolpix P900. It has a 2000mm optical zoom, and you combine that with a digital zoom, well... So I started my research on that camera. Come to find out there was two versions, a P900 and P1000. The main difference I saw was the P900 had a 2000mm zoom and GPS, where the P1000 had a 3000mm zoom but no GPS. Since we do a lot of traveling, I wanted the GPS. So when we get to a place where I can order it, I am.
While Michael was here, he took me 4-wheelin. That was fun, we even saw a moose that you can see in the picture to the right. It's the black dot in the middle of the picture. (Click on the picture to get a blowup of it.) You could see it a lot clearer if I had the P900!.
While we were there, we threw up a tent up the hill from us so know one would try to camp up there. It has a large fire pit that we use to burn our trash (the burnable stuff at least). I worked, no one camped up there, but on the other side of our rig....
One day while camping in Jefferson, I thought someone was outside on the roof dropping bowling balls on the roof. Come to find out it was just hail...A lot of hail and of course it was when we were trying to sleep. Click on the picture for a expanded view of what it looked like the next morning. (also in the picture, you can see some jackass that had to camp right behind us. Don't know why, there was miles and miles of places to camp.)
After Jefferson, we headed to Fairplay to dump our tanks and get some laundry done. We stayed at the Middlefork RV Park. It was a small park next to a stream, just north of the grocery store (walking distance). While here, Terry said she was thirsty, so we headed to the Highest Altitude whinery in the world, the "Continental Divide Winery" that was just around the corner from the campground. After this stay, we headed to Monument so we can get that camera and our mail. Also hang with Michael some more. See you there.
