Our stop in Albuquerque was a short visit with family. after the visit, headed to Aurora Colorado to see friends and family. But not without a few stops along the way. This page will cover our entire Colorado adventure. So let's get at it.
Our first stop in Colorado was at the Koa in Colorado City (29-30 Apr), just south of Pueblo. We just hung for the night before continuing on to Monument. We didn't do anything, we didn't even get gas.
Our next stop was at Colorado Heights RV Resort in Monument (30 Apr-5 May). We are members here and normally doesn't cost us anything, but this time it cost us $8 a day for electricity. (We wanted 50-Amp service instead of the normal 30amp they offer for free) . We like the feel of the camp ground but the drive to your spot can be really hairy. The trees are a little too close in some spots and you get a lot of highway noise. Other than that, it's nice. Here we didn't just hang out, we were busy doing errands so when we get to Aurora, we will have more time for visits. I tell you what, the drive to the campground was hairy too, but just the last 2 miles of it. The fog rolled in and it was so thick, we could barely see the sign that said "Caution, heavy fog ahead.". The route we normally went was closed for road work so we had to find another way to it. Thank god for maps and GPS.
So what did we do here? For starters... Remember when I broke my glasses in Jackson WY? Well I'm going to get my eyes checked so when we get to Loveland (our next stop) I can get new glasses. They have an Eyemart express there where I can get glasses in an hour. Or so they say. Terry also was able to see a chiropractor that day too. We were in need of some tires for the truck and thought it would be cheaper in Monument than in the Denver metro area. So we headed to Discount tire to order and eventually get them installed. I decided on the Continental At tires, they have a 60K mile warranty on them. So when I came in to get them installed, only 4 of the 6 tires showed up. I guess the order was split and the last two was coming from another warehouse... Or so they say. So I had the 4 installed in the rear and the next day had the other two installed while I was getting my eyes checked. After I got the front tire installed, I scattled over to Brakes Plus to have the front end aligned. Come to find out they didn't want to do it because the ball joints are loose and it might not hold the alignment, but they were willing to fix the ball joints, for a price of course. So I guess I will take it to the dealer to have it looked at, since we have a warranty.
When we arrived at Monument, the microwave broke. The first time Terry opened the door to the microwave, it lost power. This isn't the first time this happened but before, it just threw the breaker. This time it didn't trip the breaker. So I broke out my trusty screwdriver and commenced to tear it apart. Come to find out the internal fuse blew. So the next day, we headed to a couple different appliance part stores to get a new fuse... You know they didn't carry that? Stupid parts stores. We ended up getting one at Lowes...Who knew. Anyway, the Microwave is working again. Waiting to see if the issues come back up, or was this related to the power issue I had in Texas last year.
After all that, we headed to Loveland for our next stop (5-8 May), and stayed at Riverview Campground. Unless we need to, I don't think we will stay there again. It's a nice park for a weekend warrior, but we couldn't get any internet or very limited at best and couldn't pick up any TV stations over the air. They did have cable, but it was in standard Def and very snowy. Anyway, we were staying here to get doctor stuff done...and me some new glasses. It took about 2 hours to get two new glasses made. That will work until my next dance I guess. We also ran over to America's furniture warehouse to get a new bed. Ended up getting a Nectar bed. We will see how that works. I know it will work better than our old pad. "Wait, what is that?", Terry asks..."is that a winery!" (while going down the road). Guess where we ended up. Four bottles later, we made it home. No, we didn't drink four bottles, but we did take four of those little devils home with us.
We finally made it to Cherry Creek State park in Aurora and planning on staying here from 8-18 May. When we booked our spot back in Jan, all we could get was a spot with no hookups for that period we were staying there. Not a big deal, we did our laundry and filled our fresh water tank before we left Loveland. We shouldn't have any issues... What is this white stuff on the ground? That is what I said the morning after we arrived. So up on the roof I go to clear the snow off the solar panels. Can't get our batteries charged if they can't see the light. We arrived on a Wed and didn't see any sun until Saturday. We were able to get some charge each day, but not a full charge. Saturday we got all charged up. Oh, before I forget, we got a fly-by one time during our dog walk. Must have been a bird of prey in stealth mode. That's right, both Terry and I was pooped on in one shot! We didn't even see it come or go (ok, maybe we saw it go... On US!), but it was brown and gross (ok, you can go back to eating now).
What did we do here, you ask? We visited with our friends Don and Diane, Pete and Gwen, our son of course, and we were hoping to see Ben and his family, but our schedules didn't line up. We also enjoyed ourselves at the annual Chocolate festival; that was yummy.
On Michael's day off, we headed to Mueller State Park for a few hikes in the hills. I don't know why the trails have to start on top of the hill. That just means you're pooped when you get back to the truck after walking back up the hill that you just went down. But we did have fun and got to see a few deer to boot. Here are the pics for that.
I was able to get my truck in for an alignment and check the suspension. They told me there wasn't anything wrong with the suspension... Like they expected. I guess Brakes Plus thought they saw someone to get more money out of, instead they lost money... And my business.
Well I guess that's it for here. Now we are heading East for a tour of the Grand Design factory in Indiana. Looks like we get to follow some storms too. Yay! Pack your rain coat and come for the ride.
