Good morning,
Our adventure to Alaska has started. Mine started at 2 in the morning because that is when I woke up. The night before our travel day, the group has a meeting about the next day. They tell us about how and where we are going and what time window to leave in. This day, we had to leave between 8 am and 9:30 am. We then meet up at the park at 2:30 pm to go visit the
Remington Carriage Center in Cardston Alberta. We will be staying there for one night.
When we got to the border, there was a duty free shop that Terry wanted to stop at. We poke our heads in and we saw booze and smokes with some perfume and that was about it. So we hopped back in the rig to cross the border. The crossing itself wasn't bad, a little long wait before we got to the window, but then all they asked was if we had pot and guns then off we went. We'll see how the other crossings go.
The campground we stayed at was
Lee Creek campground in Cardston and the carriage center was just a short walk away. The campground was nice. Large sites with just the right amount of trees. When we arrived, we radioed the wagon master to let him know we were arriving and he met us at the office. From there he told us where to park. It's a back-in site that was quite level. We decided to stay hooked up and just manually put the Jack's down for stabilization.
I believe the carriage center was the largest collection of carriages either in North America or the world. When Queen Elizabeth wanted to ride in one while visiting Canada, this is where they get them. The way this came about was Mr. Remington saw a need to preserve the old carriages of the day, he ask the government for money and they gave it to him. I guess the land was donated from the city and residents and the building was built. They had a lot of carriages, buggies and wagons of all shapes and sizes in there. If your in the area, this would be a great stop.
Here are the pictures we took.
Our next stop is at Fort Macleod, about 40 miles away. I know it's a long travel day, but we'll try to make it. See you there.
